Let's make something fun together!
I'm Sam Moynihan, a Seattle-based professional video editor, producer, photographer, and dabbler in any other art form I can get my hands on. I'm here to make art for the sake of art and be creative for passion over profit. Let's works together to make something beautiful over what drives you!
Video Editing
Everyone loves a good Sizzle Reel...
However (spoilers!) this video is not a sizzle for me. This video is a promotional sizzle for the SnoGoat Skimo's Vertfest. I was the lead editor and motion designer on this project, and love using it as an example of a fun sizzle video that shows off a real world event, rather than just other videos that I have edited! My work included: video editing, motion design, sound design, and color grading.
... but editing encompasses so much more!
An older piece, but one that still stand up. Not Just a Name is a Student Academy Award winning documentary short that I took the lead on as one of two editors. Documentaries are a huge passion of mine: they shine the light on the real world through the lens of a narrative. Trues stories that show perspectives the viewer may not have seen before, all while stringing together an emotional throughline in an otherwise messy world!
Editing warms our hearts...
This one is incredibly close to my heart. The Character Tree is a series of videos and educational resources for primary school teachers and their students. I personally wrote and edited 30+ episodes of The Character Tree, each introducing an important character trait and demonstrating how it applies to important historical figure/events, and the daily lives of students. Above is an episode focused on Teamwork and the Apollo 11 Mission.
...and is music to our ears!
Do you hear that? That's a sample of bonus content that I edited for the Patreon of The Adventure Diaries Podcast. This was an exceptionally fun project, allowing listeners to follow along on a physical map while listening to fully immersive audio journeys about the history and ecology of different locations around the world. I loved working on this project because it focused purely on the auditory experience of storytelling, beyond just spoken word. It's a skill I try to apply to all of my visual edits, but can really be emphasized in an audio only piece.
The medium matters...
Shortform, longform, television, film, podcast, video diaries... there are so many ways to tell and audio/visual story! And each one of them has different strengths and different needs from an editor. That's what I love about editing. No one project is the same! This was a video I edited for the YouTube Channel Adventures with Pinny, a fun foray into visual blogging, audience engagement, and bending the rules of cinema to meet the needs of YouTube conent!
... and no one size fits all.
Want different aspect ratios? It's the best way to get your video on multiple platforms, but it's about more than just slapping on a boarder, or turning the video sideways! Resizing mean reimagining the piece as if it was originally built for a new size. What needs to be reshot, reworked, or reimagined? This video showcases some of the various gaming projects that I've edited and resized to be best suited for multiple platforms.
Bottom line? We're all here to tell stories...
Another older video, Cereal Boxes shows some of my experience with traditional narrative work. I worked on this set as both the DP and editor to encapsulate the difference in one experience between the eyes of a mother and the playful world of her child, showing how the colors of the wold begin to fade when reality begins to break that childlike wonder down.
so let's work together to tell yours!
I clearly have a lot to say about editing - it is one of my life's great passions! If you have a project idea or want to chat more about the ins and outs of narrative storytelling, hit up my contact info! Photography
My favorite type of photography is wildlife photography. I love catching a flurry of motion in a single still image and putting a visual to thing so fast that we may miss them with our eyes! That being said, I also have experience with landscapes, buildings, pets, and human photography. While I work on finding a good place for my catalogue, here are some los-res versions of some of my work. See a picture you like? Hit me up for prints!

Production
With a BFA in Film and Television Production, I've trained pretty much every aspect of the filmmaking process. My most recent passion project is a new take on the ttrpg actual play format, producing and direction Pacific Short Rest's new series, Skyborne. Keep your eyes on this page for when new episodes of Skyborne will be hitting the screen!

What's the point of art without experimentation? I may have specialized in video production and photography, but I love trying out art of all forms! Here are some of my favorite projects.
